Thapar University - TU was established on 8 October 1956 as an Engineering College named Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology. It came into existence in 1956 through an imaginative collaboration between the then State of Patiala and East Punjab States Union (PEPSU), the Central Government and the Patiala Technical Education Trust (PTET) founded by the great captain of Indian Industry, the Late Lala Karam Chand Thapar. & then converted to Thapar University  in the year 1985 vide Sec.3 of the UGC Act, 1956 under notification # F.9-12/84-U.3. Thapar University offers Post-graduate and undergraduate programs in Engineering, Science, Management and Social Sciences. The Thapar University is one of three organisations located in the 250 acre campus, known as Thapar Technology Campus (TTC), in the historic city of Patiala. It is one of the oldest engineering institutes of India & continuously ranked among the top top 50 colleges of the country.

Thapar University Eligibility Criteria:

 

Candidate should have minimum 60% (55% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate of Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry/ Biology/ Biotechnology/ Computer Science at 10+2 or equivalent examination are also required to be eligible for admission.

50% of the seats of BE/BTech program are reserved for the candidates who have passed/ (or appearing) in their +2 examination from the institutions located in Punjab. Remaining seats are for those who have passed +2 examinations from Institutions located outside Punjab.

 

Entrance test:

 

There is no entrance test for BE/B-Tech programes, instead the merit in AIEEE exam is considered for admission.  However  candidates  who score at least 20% (15% for SC/ST) aggregate marks in AIEEE are eligible for admissions. 50% of the seats are reserved for the Punjab candidates & balance 50% are open to All India candidates.

 

Thapar University Placements: 

 

Thapar University make great efforts for placements of students.They have very coordial relations with corporates & also the companies have also faith in education standard & student quality of the institute. So the placements are not a cause of worry for the Thapar students.

 

Thapar university Tuition Fees:

 

Tuition fee are really on higher side & around Rs. 180000/- a year & one should have good resources for funding . But keeping in view the quality of education & facilities, it provides  value for money.

Closing Ranks given above are only after 2nd updation & fianl ranks always move up to 40/50 thousand in next roundss. 

 

Applications & prospectus for the year 2011 will be  available   from April 13, 2011 from select branches of the axix bank. On payment of Rs. 1500/-. The application form can also be obtained from Thapar University counter as well as by post by sending DD amounting Rs. 1550/-. Candidates can also down load the application form from university website, take a print & after completing the form can send it  along with DD of Rs. 1500 made in favour of  thapar University Patiala can send it to "Incharge Admission Cell", Thapar University, Patiala (Punjab) - 147004.
